My upbringing was devoid of the concept of equity; my family had little understanding of its meaning. Facing considerable adversity during my youth, I encountered numerous challenges including being a troubled teen, a runaway, periods of homelessness, and time spent in a children's shelter. After completing high school, I enlisted in the US Navy, driven by a profound aspiration to be of service to others. My military career afforded me the opportunity to engage in humanitarian efforts, which I found profoundly fulfilling.
Following an honorable discharge from the Navy, I embarked on a career in the civilian workforce as a banker. It was in this role that I became acutely aware of the disparities in equity, witnessing firsthand inequalities in pay, healthcare, education, economic opportunities, and business practices. This realization was not just an observation of systemic issues; it was a reflection of my own experiences with inequity. Now, armed with these insights, education, and experience guided by a commitment to change, my goal has shifted toward education and inspiration. I am dedicated to raising awareness about equity, advocating for equal access to opportunities that enable individuals to achieve their full potential in health, financial well-being, and beyond, irrespective of their origins or past experiences.
